  1. The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.  “The mindfulness of the wider….”

Perhaps as the proliferation of electronics and social media has us uber distracted, we are suddenly hearing more and more about mindfulness.  Well what is it?  Who has it?  And should we all be working toward getting more of it?!  Generally speaking, mindfulness is a moment to moment awareness of one’s experience without judgement.  Mindfulness helps to develop capacities such as calmness, clarity and concentration. To find out more we checked in with Google and the Dalia Lama. His Holiness said, “In order to have a realistic goal, one needs to understand reality for which the mind must be calm. He added that to have a calm mind, compassion was important. Compassion opens your heart… adding that fear, anger, hatred, etc. narrows the mind.” – The 14th Dalia Lama of Tibet.  Interestingly, in an effort to promote productivity and reduce anxiety and stress among their work force,  Google offers a mindfulness program available worldwide designed  by the top experts in this field.

Some practices to help cultivate mindfulness include: yoga, tai chi, qigong and meditation.  To simply live with intent… these small changes have the ability to make you feel more rested, more connected, happier and inspired.  It’s the simple first step toward creating greater change in the world.
